Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy

Internship Opportunities

The Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy (DPA) is nationally recognized as a model state-wide public defender system.  Our attorneys represent individuals who have been accused or convicted of a crime and do not possess the means to hire private counsel. Public Defense attorneys are specialists in criminal defense law.

Year-round, unpaid internships are available to law students, undergraduates and high school students who have an interest in the criminal justice system and a passion for helping others.

The purpose of DPA’s internship program is to allow the student to gain work experience in a field closely aligned with their discipline, to gain necessary knowledge, experience, and skills in the field of Public Defense and Criminal Justice.

Students are not permitted to contact field offices directly.
