DPA Office in Shelbyville Has a New Leader
Virginia Phelps Named Directing Attorney of the Shelbyville Trial Office
A classically trained musician, Virginia Phelps was first recruited to DPA in the hope that her performance experience would transfer to the courtroom. In 2006, she left her hometown of Louisville and moved to Columbia (Ky.) to accept a DPA staff attorney position. In her twelve years in the Columbia Office, she has focused on client-centered representation, handled a multitude of criminal trials, and completed numerous training opportunities, including the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, GA in July 2018. In late November 2018, she was named the new directing attorney in the DPA trial office in Shelbyville.
Virginia graduated from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in 2006. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Music at U Of L in 2003 after three years at Indiana University’s School of Music in Bloomington and a long interval of playing music professionally. She was a recipient of the Kentucky Legal Education Opportunity Scholarship (KLEO). KLEO scholars are non-traditional law students who are encouraged to work in public service in Kentucky.
Virginia currently lives in Springfield, KY with her husband Alan and her daughters Julia and Sarah.
